SMMT: Commercial vehicle sales up
Tue, 07 Feb 2006
Total sales of commercial vehicles (CVs) in the UK reached 25,546 units in January, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has reported.
Despite this figure being down 2.6 per cent from the previous year, experts at the trade association claim that sales still remain stable, with above-average demand expected over the coming months.
SMMT chief executive Christopher Macgowan commented: "CV registrations in January continued where they left off last year, well above the long-term average.
"The total dipped in the second half of last year but we expect some growth in the next 12 months, with continued and broadly based demand for commercial vehicles."
Those looking to update their van insurance policy will be interested to learn that heavy van registrations rose by 4.9 per cent in January from the same period last year.
Increasing sales, it is believed, are likely to push down the costs of van insurance as competition grows between insurance brokers.
