Van Insurance Due?

Cash-in-transit vans at risk
Criminals who stole more than 3.5 million in raids on cash-in-transit vans in Ireland could be raising the costs of van insurance for companies.
Last March for example, a criminal gang held the family of a Securicor van driver hostage while forcing him to drop 50 bags of cash containing around 2 million into a skip in Dublin.
The incident was followed two weeks later by the robbery of 2.7 million from a cash transit van at a north Dublin petrol station, reported Ireland Online.
Since these events, Ireland's justice minister Michael McDowell has introduced a voluntary code of practice in order to improve the security of cash-in-transit vans to prevent them from becoming the targets of crime.
But critics believe that more can be done to prevent such crimes after it was revealed that a total of 62 cash-in-transit robberies were carried out in the country during 2004 despite Mr McDowell's measures.
