Warm weather brings subsidence concerns for homeowners
Tue, 23 May 2006
Home insurance policy holders are being warned about the possible impact that a dry summer could have one their properties, with the problem of subsidence becoming an increasing worry.
With some 13 million households in the UK facing restrictions on their water usage this summer, being able to water our plants or wash the car may be a concern on our minds.
However, perhaps a more serious problem facing homeowners is that of subsidence where the earth dries out, causing the foundations of the house to sink into the ground.
This can often manifest itself as cracks in the supporting walls of the house, something that should be reported to home insurance providers in order that the damage can be repaired and further damage prevented, and so that the insurance policy for the house can be kept up to date.
Experts also warn that although subsidence can be combated effectively using concrete to bolster foundations, homeowners should ensure that all work is carried out by a reputable builder in order to prevent any further damage to the property.
