Partying teens a home insurance worry
Parents are being warned of the home insurance headache that teenage parties could cause with the end of school and university exams approaching.
According to new research from home insurance providers, parties thrown by teenagers in the family home to celebrate the end of exams or graduation can have a devastating financial impact.
Indeed, the last five years have seen £136 million worth of damage as a result of teenage celebrations going over board at house parties, making the average repair bill a worrying £132 per party, according to figures from Zurich.
Carpets and soft furnishings appear to come off worst, with 35 per cent of parties experiencing carpet damage, while soft furnishings have suffered on 22 per cent of occasions.
And damage may not be the only thing that requires a home insurance claim, with around one in 20 party-throwers surveyed saying that possessions had actually been stolen during a party.
But it's not just the wayward teens that are to blame: 60 per cent of parents surveyed admitted that they too had turned the family home into a party venue within the last five years, with a third of these saying that damage had been caused as a result.
