House burns down for second time
Thu, 02 Feb 2006
A couple in Berkshire are beginning to think that their house is cursed after it was devastated by fire eight years to the day since a previous blaze.
Andrew and Nikki Reason from Theale saw their historic 17th century thatched manor house go up in flames this week for the second time.
Fire officials said they believed a stray ember from a log fire or stove inside the property had started the inferno.
Mr Reason, a company director, said that the couple felt devastated.
"It's awful," he told the Metro: "We've just spent £20,000 replacing rotting timbers to get the house back to its former glory."
The spookily repetitious event was discovered by the couple when they arrived back from work on Tuesday evening, but it is still uncertain whether Mr and Mrs Reason will be able to claim for the damage on their home insurance.
