Home explosion underlines home insurance necessity
Thu, 01 Jun 2006
Today's story of a teenaged son who accidentally managed to blow the roof off his parents' house has underlined in grim detail how essential it is that homeowners take out adequate home insurance cover.
Young Sean Davey of Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk was enjoying a few days of freedom while his parents were holidaying in the Scottish Highlands.
However, the 18-year-old left a basket of laundry on top of the cooker without noticing that a hob had been accidentally turned on.
The fire quickly spread to a deodorant can in some nearby shopping bags, resulting in an explosion of staggering force. Windows were blown out and the roof was even momentarily lifted clean off the bungalow.
It has been estimated that the explosion caused structural damage in the region of £20,000, while an additional £15,000 must be spent on repairing fire and smoke damage.
However, while Ms Bray has forgiven her unfortunate son she would undoubtedly have been far less accommodating had they not been covered by their home insurance policy.
Indeed, damage to homes is caused every day in some of the most bizarre incidents imaginable. Therefore, homeowners are urged to take out adequate home insurance to cover every crazy eventuality, regardless how seemingly far-fetched.
