DIY can be 'false economy'
Homeowners are being warned that their plans to improve their homes can sometimes be a false economy if they fail to get the experts in.
Many people have been inspired by television shows on property development to make improvements to their own homes in the hope of making substantial profits when they decide to sell up.
However, Vinden, chairman of construction consultants The Vinden Partnership, has cautioned that such a move can be counter-productive if people do not know what they are doing.
As such, home insurance might be an important addition to a householder's finances just in case the outlay on a property proves not to bring in the results hoped for.
If DIY goes wrong, it can prove costly and could result in a property dropping in value.
However, it is important to remember that where improvements are made, homeowners should remember to update their home insurance policies to reflect this.
