Counting the cost of Christmas guests
Mon, 28 Nov 2005
With one fifth of Brits neglecting to take out home insurance, the cost of home-based accidents over the Christmas period could prove more expensive than predicted.
According to a survey by NatWest, one quarter of those questioned were not aware that they could be held responsible if an accident involving another person were to happen on their property.
For around 40 per cent of home owners, the biggest priority when choosing home insurance was that it provided financial cover in the event of damage being sustained to their home.
But with the average Brit holding around five parties a year and inviting approximately 120 visitors into their homes, adequate protection for guests and guests' belongings should also be taken into account.
NatWest representative, Bob Trinder, said: "Insuring your property against all eventualities is vital and it is concerning to see that over a fifth of Brits neglect to buy insurance at all.
"What's more, in the upcoming party season, a good home insurance policy will protect you against any accidents that happen both to your belongings and to any guests in your home."
