National Ride to Work Day to boost industry

Fri, 15 Jul 2005

The profile of the motorcycle industry is set to receive a boost when National Ride to Work Day goes ahead next Wednesday July 20th.

Organised by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI), this annual event aims to bring motorbikes to the attention of non-riders and provide further encouragement to those who do already ride their motorbikes to work.

A recent survey by the MCI found that those who ride their motorbike to work do so because journey times are shorter, it is cheaper than a car or public transport, and it helps them avoid congestion.

"Ride to Work Day is the opportunity for riders to run fun events for example comparing journey times with car driving colleagues," said Craig Carey-Clinch, director of public affairs at MCI.

"Other local activities can be organised to support Ride to Work Day -- including an event to show the local community how motorcycle use provides real benefits for those who ride -- which can help challenge preconceived ideas about motorcycling."

Those who do choose to support the day by riding to work should not forget to ensure they have comprehensive bike insurance cover.
