Police go green

Wed, 22 Mar 2006

The police in the West Country are to take advantage of green fuel.

Avon & Somerset Constabulary has bought 15 bioethanol-powered vehicles to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions and reduce fuel costs.

The police will also be helping the local economy as plans are in place for local crops to be used in the production of the fuels.

Ford's European sustainability director, Andy Taylor, said: "Somerset has been ahead of the game in spotting the huge environmental and economic potential biofuels can offer.

"Vehicle fleets in the country are running on a renewable fuel which can be produced in Britain. Bioethanol is priced less than fossil fuels and the biofuel industry is creating new British jobs."

Alongside the police, Somerset County Council, Wessex Water and Green Spirit Fuels are all introducing bioethanol-powered vehicles into their fleets.

Going for a green option is a good way of lowering the expenses of running a fleet, along with having good value fleet insurance.
