One crash 'makes 2nd more likely' for company cars
Company car drivers who crash their car once are more likely to experience a second accident than their colleagues, new research suggests.
The findings of a study conducted by WNS Assistance should come as a warning to companies looking to reduce the claims made on their fleet insurance, with those drivers having already claimed the most likely to claim again.
A repeat claim on the fleet insurance was found to be most likely in west London, where it was found that 17 per cent of company car drivers who had experienced an accident would crash again within 12 months.
This figure compared with a national average of just over 11 per cent, found by surveying a total of 150,000 accident victims between January and March 2006.
However, it is not clear why drivers in and around London are so vulnerable to repeated car accidents, with other major cities with similar congestion problems and complex road systems not so accident prone.
One theory is that the high usage of public transport in London means that drivers have less continuous driving experience, making their driving more hazardous.
