Fleet Insurance

Needless errors costing fleets dear

Fleet insurance costs could be dramatically reduced if companies ensured that their employees were made properly familiar with their company cars, experts claim.

According to AA Business Services, millions in fleet insurance claims are wasted every year on unnecessary 'self-induced faults' (SIFs), caused by a lack of familiarisation with the layout and design of a new company car.

One of the most common mistakes made is the obvious error made in using the wrong kind of fuel when refilling the tank.

Accidentally putting petrol into a diesel car, or vice-versa, can cause thousands of pounds of damage – particularly in more modern, technologically advanced cars where the complexity of the engines makes the problem more difficult to fix.

Losing your keys is another simple but costly mistake which can cost a company hundreds, as new immobiliser technology means that a new set of keys needs to be programmed by the manufacturer, costing time and money.

However, adequate training for employees before they take to the road could eliminate many of these mistakes, ensuring that the costs of running a fleet are dramatically reduced.
