Minister drives with speed camera detector

Thu, 16 Mar 2006

Transport minister Dr Stephen Ladyman has admitted in parliament to using a speed camera detector.

During a debate on whether such detection devices should remain legal the minister made the admission.

Dr Ladyman said: "Such devices will continue to be perfectly legal. I have one myself."

He went on to claim that having the GPS-based speed camera detector made him drive well.

For those whose role it is to oversee fleets of vehicles having such devices would not only mean drivers face fewer fines and the possibility of losing their licences but, if as the minister claims, they drive more safely there will be fewer claims on any fleet insurance policies.
