Fleet managers opt for small vehicles
Fri, 25 Nov 2005
Fleet operators voted with their feet in an attempt to help protect the environment, by selecting a small, fuel-efficient vehicle as Car of the Year.
The Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) awards are presented on an annual basis to vehicles which fleet managers believe have performed the best overall.
This year's ACFO Car of the Year was awarded to the Vauxhall Astra, making it the second small car to bag the top prize in the awards' history. Last year the fuel-efficient Ford Focus scooped the award.
ACFO chairman, Tony Leigh, said: "Fleet operators are sending a clear message to the government that companies are looking to operate the most environmentally-friendly vehicles available, subject to them being fit-for-purpose and offering excellent whole life costs."
Mr Leigh also said that the selection of the Astra for the award suggested that fleet operators were aware of the government's tax incentives for businesses using greener company cars.
The fleet insurance benefits of smaller, more compact vehicles can also be financially rewarding.
