Fleet drivers say yes to going green

Tue, 25 Apr 2006

Company car drivers are happy to driver greener, more fuel economic cars according to a recent industry survey.

Over 93 per cent of company car drivers say that they would be very happy to drive a more eco-friendly car using alternative renewable fuel sources, a survey conducted by Leasedrive Group has found.

However, the fleet drivers said that UK services stations would have to offer the refuelling services required to run the cars.

The findings may prompt fleet managers to invest in greener alternatives to the traditional petrol driven company car, which may save money on fuel consumption costs, road tax and fleet insurance.

The survey, which asked the opinions of 1,000 fleet motorists across the UK, also found that speed cameras remained unpopular with the drivers, and many said that they would be in favour of raising the speed limits of Britain's motorways.

The government is currently aiming to make five per cent of all fuel sold in the UK renewably sourced in an effort to cut CO2 emmissions by 2010, putting pressure on oil companies and manufacturers to provide the new technology required.

Although hybrid cars – using both petrol and electricity – have found some popularity, cars that use alternative fuels have yet to see the same development.
