Avis doubles return network

Car rental firm Avis has doubled its use of Rapid Return technology in the UK.

The technology checks in a returned rental vehicle in under 60 seconds and has helped the company to handle the busy summer period during which its fleet expands to nearly 20,000 vehicles.

Rapid Return can check the mileage and condition of the car, and the time in which it is checked in, with the customer present.

Penny Stoolman, director of sales and marketing at Avis, said: "Since Rapid Return’s inception at the beginning of the year we have experienced more than a 50 per cent reduction in post rental customer enquiries proving that this technology is really beneficial.

"We are working towards extending the coverage to over 160 locations in total across Europe and look forward to many more satisfied customers using this service."

Consumers are urged to ensure they have adequate fleet insurance or car insurance before renting a vehicle.
