UK spends £90bn running cars
Tue, 28 Feb 2006
British motorists spend £90 million a year running their cars, according to new research.
The average cost of running a new car is now £511 a month, while the average driver spends £222 a month to keep on the road.
Running a new car is now more expensive to a household than the average mortgage repayments, being £68 dearer a month.
One way to cut down your motoring costs, as well as choosing a cheap car insurance policy, is to shop around for good financing deals.
The report, entitled Direct Line Driving for Less, found that a quarter of new car drivers accept finance packages from car dealers.
However, by shopping around for a loan for a new car, drivers could be saving as much as £1735.
