UK car prices increase, but in line with Europe

The price of a new car in the UK is now level with that of other European countries, despite increases in the average new car price over the last 12 months, recently released market data claims.

In the latest survey by RoadToData, new car prices in the UK were found to have risen by 5.6 per cent, significantly more than the increase of 2.9 per cent for Europe as a whole, and the second highest for a European country.

The findings suggest that finding a cheap deal on a new car abroad may not be so simple, making finding a cheap deal on your car insurance all the more important for saving the pennies.

The research also found that new car sales dropped by nearly 2.5 per cent in 2005, compared with sales figures for the previous year, with all kinds of cars seeing a decline.

There was good news for diesel manufacturers, however, as the sales of diesel cars rose by almost two per cent.
