Romantic Brits ignoring insurance necessity
Mon, 05 Sep 2005
Although over nine million British adults would purchase relationship insurance, a notable proportion are failing to protect their cars and personal belongings with cover.
New research from Abbey revealed over one in five women would take out financial protection for their love life, if they could, while 28 per cent of Britons would buy insurance which compensates them for getting old.
The study suggests anxieties concerning old age and romance are preoccupying the nation, with seven million adults risking huge financial loss by having no insurance at all whether car insurance, home insurance or otherwise.
Commenting on the findings, Sue Wilkinson, head of health and protection insurance at Abbey, said: "Our research provides a light-hearted insight into the national psyche and its not surprising that so many people said they worry about gaining weight or getting old.
"But on a more serious note, too many people are taking chances when it comes to the things we care most about in life such as the family, health, home and car. Arranging the right insurance neednt be a hassle and could end up making all the difference during difficult times."
The research revealed 22 per cent of consumers having no home contents insurance what so ever, while three out of ten drivers are breaking the law and putting themselves at risk by lacking car insurance.
