Rio Ferdinand 'worst' football star driver

Fri, 09 Dec 2005

Football legend Rio Ferdinand has been labeled the worst driver amongst other UK players, according to new research.

The star will have to hope that his car insurance has got him covered, since a list compiled by Virgin Money has found that the defender is the worst culprit for breaking the law when he's behind the wheel.

Ferdinand has so far been banned four times this year for speeding and drink driving, although he is not the only football star setting a bad example on the road.

Newcastle's Kieron Dyer underwent a six month ban after being caught speeding four times in two years and Frank Sinclair of Burnley was arrested for drink driving three days after being banned for speeding.

Jason Wyer-Smith from Virgin Money said: "We should all be driving safely but it's not just footballers who pick up points and speeding fines.

"However, not telling your insurer about your driving indiscretions in the hope of saving a few pounds on your premium could invalidate your insurance altogether."

Footballers may be able to afford the costs of expensive car insurance policies, fines or even court appearances, but the average motorist is well advised to avoid the additional costs of incurring a speeding fine.
