New driver scam cheats speed cameras
Some speeding drivers are able to avoid speed cameras and are getting away without a penalty, by exploiting a legal loophole.
Drivers are registering their cars at one of a network of 'mass-mailing' addresses rather than their own homes, meaning police seeking the motorist to impose a fine or arrest can only find a shop or warehouse.
Police chiefs are now calling for a change in the law to stop these individuals being able to speed with no fear of retribution.
"There is the danger, and there is the sheer injustice of it," Conservative MP Andrew Selous told the Observer.
"If you or I are caught doing 35mph in a 30mph limit, we get three points on our licences and a £60 fine. People may resent that, but understand there is a reason for it.
"But there are segments of the population who have wised up to clever ways of getting round this, which is extremely dangerous and downright unfair."
Speeding drivers also push up car insurance costs for law-abiding drivers, making it even more essential that drivers shop around for cheap motor insurance.
