Car Insurance Due?

Inform car insurer before driving abroad
UK holidaymakers considering taking their car abroad are being urged to ensure they have adequate car insurance cover before setting out.
New research from Moneyextra revealed that some 6.3 million people will take their cars on holiday this year, although many of them will do so without adequate car insurance, leaving them vulnerable in the event of an unfortunate accident.
A quarter of fully comprehensive insurance policies do not cover drivers abroad unless they pay extra, although most will allow driving abroad provided they have been notified first.
But many of these policies are limited to just three days cover, which is sufficient to cover legal obligations, but woefully insufficient to cover damage in the event of an accident.
Tim Berry, a director at MoneyExpert.com said: "Taking your own car overseas makes sense for millions who want to avoid queuing at airports or driving an unfamiliar hire car when youre already struggling to adapt to driving on the wrong side of the road.
"If you do intend driving overseas you should either check your policy before you go or when it comes round to renewing your policy move to one which offers overseas cover at no extra cost."
Moneyextra added that all holidaymakers considering driving abroad should contact their insurer first to see what conditions they impose, and has also recommended obtaining an International Motor Insurance Certificate, often referred to as the Green Card
