Hummer comes to the UK
The notorious SUV manufacturer Hummer is set to bring its selection of monstrous off-road vehicles to the UK this year, with the US company exhibiting some of its models at the British International Motor Show.
Hummers, which bear some resemblance road-worthy tanks, are famous for being the motor vehicle of choice for many celebrities including David Beckham and Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with many other Hollywood stars.
This high-profile publicity has helped the brand go global in the past couple of years, with sales doubling in 2005 from 31,000 units to over 60,000.
However, they are despised by environmentalists who criticise their tank-like levels of fuel consumption and the inevitable increased amounts of greenhouse emissions as a result, and will be seen as a backward step in the quest to make motoring a more environmentally friendly pastime.
Already this year, both the government and car insurance providers have made efforts to promote greener alternatives such as hybrid cars, with tax breaks and cheaper car insurance premiums offered.
