Europeans put safety first
Wed, 30 Nov 2005
Safety and reliability have been revealed to be top of the list when it comes to buying a new car, a survey has found.
The Euro New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) commissioned the Mori poll in order to assess whether safety concerns were a serious consideration when consumers chose to purchase a new car.
For most European drivers, safety did in fact prove to be the most important factor, with reliability coming a close second. Both of these factors also have an impact on car insurance costs.
Around 47 per cent of perspective car buyers looked into safety information before making a decision, the survey found, with Brits amongst the most enquiring.
Discerning car buyers used resources such as magazines, friends, newspapers and the television as sources of information concerning the safety of their car.
