Car insurance 'won't cover driving abroad'
Wed, 28 Jun 2006
British motorists aiming to take their cars abroad on holiday this year are being warned to check that their car insurance provides adequate protection on foreign roads.
According to recent industry research, as many as 25 per cent of car insurance policies may not provide full insurance cover when driving in other European countries something that most UK drivers are unaware of.
The warnings come as thousands of Brits take advantage of the warm summer season and the impending school holidays to get away for a couple of weeks, taking the family car in order to avoid the high prices and inconvenience of travelling by air.
Car insurance providers are reportedly concerned about the ability of even very good drivers to drive as safely in unfamiliar countries on the other side of the road.
The problem is made worse by the fact that more often than not travel insurance policies also fail to cover damage to the car or injury sustained from an accident.
