Britain's craziest parking tickets announced
The parking ticket given to rescuers of the Thames whale has been named Britain's most barmy parking ticket.
In awards organised by the AppealNow.com, which gives advice about how to appeal against parking tickets, the Westminster council parking warden who gave out the ticket took the top place.
Barrie Segal, AppealNow founder, said: "I was gobsmacked. I spoke to the rescuing organisation and all the divers had been given authority to park there. It wasn't as if people didn't know what was going on - it beggars belief."
Other crazy tickets went to one man whose car was smashed into by joyriders. He would have expected his car insurance to help solve the problem of the crash, but the extra ticket must have bowled him over.
In one case a learner driver was ticketed after stalling during a three-point turn.
Second prize went to a plastic window repairman visiting a hospital. Although he bought a ticket to park, the wardens assumed his van belonged to a doctor, because his company name, Plastic Surgeon, was printed on the van.
Westminster council wardens were also recognised by the awards for giving tickets to a funeral cortege that was waiting while mourners paid their respects, while in Sutton a National Blood Service truck was ticketed while donors were giving blood inside.
