Bad habits rife among UK drivers
Over three-quarters of motorists have admitted to some form of potentially dangerous driving in the last month, a survey has found, making worrying reading for road safety campaigners and car insurance companies alike.
Bad habits such as driving whilst tired, driving and eating or drinking at the same time, or driving whilst using a mobile phone are rife among the British public, according to the survey carried out by Sainsbury's.
Nearly 40 per cent of those questioned admitted driving whilst tired on at least one occasion in the last month, while eating and drinking whilst driving was admitted by almost a third.
Other popular bad habits included using their mobile phone or even applying make-up whilst at the wheel of a car.
Road safety campaigners argue that such activities are doubly dangerous because they involve taking at least one hand off the steering wheel as well as diverting attention away from the road.
And on increasingly busy and unpredictable roads, this could result in an increased chance of an accident, and an expensive car insurance claim as a result.
