Terminator star hurt in motorcycle smash

Celebrity turned politician Arnold Schwarzenegger has been discharged from a hospital in California after being injured in a motorcycle crash on Sunday.

The Terminator star was riding his bike with his 12-year-old son in the sidecar when he collided with another vehicle that was reversing from a driveway.

Mr Schwarzenegger was then taken to hospital in Santa Monica where he received 15 stitches in his upper lip. His son was also treated at the hospital for minor cuts and bruising.

Although the Californian governor said that as an action movie actor he had learnt not to play "by the rules", he admitted that he had been "very lucky" and that the situation could have been "very different".

This follows a previous accident involving the star that took place in December 2001. On that occasion, the actor broke six ribs and was hospitalised for a total of four days after crashing his motorcycle in Los Angles, illustrating the essential importance of adequate bike insurance.
