Survey reveals division of motorcycle ownership

Analysis by global information solutions company, Experia, has revealed that scooter owners in London are amongst the city's most "affluent" and "cosmopolitan" residents, living in expensive housing and working in highly paid City jobs.

The profile of over 620,000 motorcycle owner and bike insurance records, conducted in conjunction with the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA), surveyed bike owners across the UK in order to reveal archetypal owners of different styles of motorbike.

Scotland was found to be the hotspot for SuperSport bike owners, who were mostly male, recently married, well educated and hardworking.

Touring or Custom bikes on the other hand where found to attract middle aged, wealthy professionals with children at school or university, and were mostly to be found in Knutsford, Amersham, Southport and Hampshire.

"The service will prove invaluable to motorcycle manufacturers, equipment suppliers and marketers in understanding the pattern of motorcycle ownership across the UK," said Nick Brown, director of research and statistical studies for MCIA.

The survey represents the first industry analysis made available on motorcycle distribution types throughout the UK.
