Motorbike thieves targeted

Bristol police are attempting to make their city far more secure for motorcycle and moped riders this month, by cracking down on professional motorbike thieves that are currently roaming the streets.

In order to catch the criminals red-handed, the police are set to use a 'covert bike', which will be parked in a bike-theft hotspot and observed from a covert location.

It is hoped that these measures will help reduce escalating levels of motorcycle theft in Bristol, making riders feel more secure and hopefully bringing down the price of bike insurance.

Quoted on Avon and Somerset Constabulary's website, Inspector Jeff Forman said: "Theft of a motorcycle a problem and can lead to a lot of distress, inconvenience and expense for the victim.

"Often, the owners of the smaller bikes and mopeds are young people who have saved up for their vehicles. It can therefore be very disappointing if its get stolen."

And its not just expensive high-powered machines that are being targeted by thieves, with smaller-engine mopeds also being taken.
