Byrne tests Rizla Suzuki in Spain

Former British Superbike champion, Shane Byrne, has undergone two days of test riding in Almerica, Spain, completing his first tryout of the Rizla Suzuki bike.

Despite crashing twice, bike insurance was no doubt the last thing on Mr Byrne's mind as he described the experience as "blinding" and "absolutely mega".

Although rain drenched the track on the first day, the enthusiasm of the London rider could not be doused as the champion braced the treacherous conditions to carry out the test run.

"I am really happy with the progress we made and only wish I was staying on for more riding," he said.

"We will go to the next test with a good bike and improve more. I'm also happy with the team and support around me - having a happy working environment is important."

Mr Byrne finished just two-tenths of a second behind Michael Rutter – the fastest rider on the test track.

Rizla Suzuki team coordinator Simon Green said that the test had been very positive overall and that Mr Byrne had done both the team and the bikes justice.
