British Superbike Championship

The British Superbike Championships is one of the most competitive domestic series in the world and is now an established feature in the British sporting calendar. The championships provide fantastic entertainment for all the family- and no team is more entertaining than Team Rizla Suzuki.

The Bikes that are raced are production-based bikes, similar to those seen on our roads everyday. Up until 2002 two types of bikes raced against each other- 3 cylinder 1000 cc and 4 cylinder 750cc, now due to a rule change all the bikes are 1000cc. As each event has two races so you get fabulous day out when you go to watch a race.

The championship calendar runs from March though to October, and provides a summer of excitement at a series of great venues throughout the UK. Circuits include Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Donnington and Snetterton. Each track provides its own challenges to the riders.

There have been many skilled riders that excelled at riding superbikes. Over recent years names such as Shane Byrne, Niall Mackenzie, Terry Rymer, Steve Hislop, Troy Bayliss, John Reynolds, Sean Emmett, James Whitham, Chris Walker, Neil Hodgson, Michael Rutter, and Yukio Kagayama have thrilled the spectators with their awesome riding skills.

The Rizla Suzuki team has been racing in the British Superbike Championships since 1996 and Express Insurance have been in partnership with the team for years. This season the Team is using the Suzuki GSX-R1000, which was a success last season, and has been worked on over the winter for even better results. The Rizla Suzuki Riders to look out for are Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and James Haydon, as they make their mark this season.
