Stay safe, Kent van insurance customers told

24th March 2009

Motorists in Kent - including those who may be on the lookout for a cheap van insurance quote - are being reminded to stay safe behind the wheel.

Kent Police have issued a set of guidelines on how to drive carefully in the Spring and what motorists can do to stay safe on the road.

Top of the list for van insurance customers to adhere to is belting up - as wearing a seatbelt can increase chances of surviving an accident by up to 60 per cent.

Research from the Department of Transport has revealed van drivers and their passengers are among the least likely to wear a seatbelt.

Chief inspector Roscoe Walford from Kent Police's roads policing unit said drivers often become lax after navigating dangerous conditions in the winter.

"In spring, people can let their guard down when they're behind the wheel because the conditions are generally better so they worry less about dangers on the road," he explained.

The fine for not wearing a seat belt is a £30 fixed penalty.
