Record VW commercial vehicles sales

Automotive manufacturer Volkswagon has posted record sales of its commercial vehicles, customers looking for a cheap van insurance quote may be interested to learn.

Despite the recessionary background, the car firm reported that it has sold more vehicles than ever before.

For the first time, Volkswagon sold more than a million commercial vehicles worldwide in 2008, with vending figures of 502,964 topping the previous year's mark of 488,726.

The most popular product with customers last year was the T5 range, comprising the Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California models, which together shifted almost 200,000 units.

"All in all, 2008 was a very good year for our brand," said Stephan Schaller, chief executive of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

"We are in a strong enough position to master the crisis, and to sell more automobiles than before once the difficult market situation has been resolved," he added.

Volkswagon has also announced it is to sponsor the forthcoming Channel 4 Adventure on 4 programming strand.
