Incorrectly loaded vans 'can be very dangerous'

15th July 2008

Businesses have been urged to keep down the cost of their van insurance by making sure staff know how to correctly load light commercial vehicles.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) said that the correct loading of vans and light goods vehicles was important for businesses as it ensured they met operator licensing regulations and transport legislation.

What's more, the pressure group stressed that incorrectly loaded vehicles were potentially dangerous, so making sure staff knew how to safely load cargos could reduce accidents and future van insurance premiums.

To help businesses, the FTA has now produced a new DVD called Safe Loading of Vans and Light Goods Vehicles.

A statement from the group explained: "The short film covers best practice procedures in relation to loading within weight limits, even distribution of load and securing the load properly.

"The DVD is the second in a series for vans and light goods vehicles, following on from Routine Checks for Vans and Light Goods Vehicles, which demonstrates the reasons why efficient daily checks are so important before a vehicle leaves base."ADNFCR-1602-ID-18684848-ADNFCR
