Safety DVD aims to improve bikers' 'riding technique'
26th February 2009
A new DVD has been launched which aims to give bikers tips on how to 'read a road' to avoid accidents.
Complied by the Highways Agency, Great Roads Great Rides 2 can be viewed interactively and bikers will have the chance to spot potential hazards as the DVD freezes at specific points.
There are clues along the road that drivers are urged to look out for and a point is awarded for each one that they spot correctly.
Commenting on the DVD, Jim Fitzpatrick said: "With biking becoming increasingly popular we want to help riders to enjoy using the roads safely.
"The new 'Great Roads Great Rides 2' DVD is a valuable addition to the existing materials designed to improve the safety of motorcyclists."
Mr Fitzpatrick explained that the DVD would help motorcyclists to "sharpen up their observation skills and riding technique".
Bikers who drive carefully may be able to take advantage of cheaper motorcycle insurance, as they are less likely to have to make a claim.
The Highways Agency reported that bikers accounted for 4.9 per cent of all casualties on Britain's motorways and A roads in 2007.
