Minister 'must help' motorcycle insurance holders

20th April 2009

The transport minister must act to prevent the collapse of the motorcycle testing system, according to industry bodies.

In news of relevance to those searching for a cheap motorcycle insurance quote, a host of industry organisations, including the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) have called for action from Jim Fitzpatrick.

They claim that the new motorcycle testing package, due to be implemented on April 29th, could put businesses and lives in danger.

In a letter to the transport minister, they warn that there will be a shortage of test centres once the measures are introduced, with learner motorcyclists having to ride potentially hazardous long distances to reach the sites.

The BMF's government relations executive Chris Hodder commented: "This is no way to introduce a new test regime.

"It's time for the government to bite the bullet and delay the test's introduction."

Recent figures from the MCI have suggested that the sector may be improving , with UK registrations of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds last month just ten per cent down on March last year.
