Honda celebrates racing anniversary
22nd April 2009
Honda is celebrating 50 years of racing, a landmark which may be of interest to motorcycle insurance customers.
The automotive firm's half-century of competition dates back to entering the Isle of Man TT back in 1959.
In order to celebrate Honda's participation in this year's TT races, the firm is issuing a series of commemorative items covering its rich history.
Working with the Isle of Man post office, a set of commemorative stamps will be circulated from May 11th onwards.
It features some of Honda's most illustrious riders covering five decades of competition, including Naomi Taniguchi (50s), Mike Hailwood (60s), Alex George (70s), Joey Dunlop (80s), Steve Hislop (90s) and John McGuinness (00s).
Other items include an official book and commemorative coin.
Steve Martindale, general manager for Honda UK, says he is looking forward to the TT races this year.
"Going to the TT is always exciting for racing fans and for Honda, as our relationship with the Island is something very special," he explained.
Honda recently had a successful start to this year's British superbike season, with three podium finishes.
