Motorists confused by parking

22nd September 2008

More than nine out of ten motorists are confused about parking regulations, a new survey has claimed.

The research by esure suggests that over 20 million motorists fail to recognise all the Highway Code rules for parking, while a further 93 cent admit that they feel confused over parking rules.

This confusion is underlined by the fact that a quarter of all the motorists have been issued a penalty parking fine in the last year, with 69 per cent of this number claiming that they were unfairly penalised.

Mike Pickard, head of risk at esure, said: "Although parking violations won’t affect your car insurance premium, they can significantly affect the overall cost of running a car, so do your best to avoid them.

"Of course, if you don’t think a parking penalty was fair then take the time to contest it."

Furthermore, a shocking 60 per cent of motorists polled said that they think some parking signs are deliberately misleading so drivers can be caught and fined.

Last week, the technology group Bosch revealed that it has developed a parking assistant, which moves cars into spaces without drivers having to steer the vehicle themselves.ADNFCR-1602-ID-18790971-ADNFCR
