Hydrogen cars tested by Lib Dems
24th October 2008
A hydrogen-powered car created by British engineers has been test driven by the leader of the Liberal Democrat party.
Nick Clegg MP visited ITM Power's factory in Sheffield with the party's shadow chancellor, Vince Cable, yesterday (October 23rd).
The politicians were able to drive a Ford Focus that had been converted so that it runs on hydrogen.
In addition, Mr Clegg and Mr Cable were shown around ITM's Home Refuelling Station, which lets householders produce hydrogen. This can be used to create emissions-free electricity..
Commenting on the experience, Mr Clegg said: "We have seen some remarkable technology today, and its great that a British company is doing it.
"ITM Power would appear to have some of the answers to help us address both climate change and our dependence on fossil fuels."
ITM Power is a firm working to pioneer ways of using hydrogen as an emission-free fuel for various forms of transport including cars, buses and trucks, as well as an energy supply for homes and businesses.
