Wonder car coming to Britain

20th June 2008

The world's lowest CO2 emitting car, originally only intended for mainland Europe, will be sold in Britain from early next year.

The smart fortwo cdi, which emits just 88 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, will be available from February next year - with prices to be announced closer to launch.

Smart, a subsidy of Daimler AG, has said that the car will also have an impressive fuel economy of 85.6 miles per gallon - meaning that it can travel up to 670 miles on a full tank.

Dermot Kelly, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Cars, reported that retailers are getting heightened interest in the car: "The cdi gives customers the whole range of smart benefits when driving in and around the city, with the added bonus of low cost, long distance motoring."

Car insurance customers were informed by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) this week, that the Toyota Yaris is the greenest car model currently on sale in the UK.
