Volkswagen models scoop safety awards

18th June 2008

Drivers hoping to keep their car insurance premiums down might want to consider opting for a Volkswagen.

Two of the manufacturer's models - the Tiguan compact MPV and Phaeton luxury saloon - recently picked up the top honours at the British Insurance Car Security Awards (BICSA), which were organised by Thatcham, the UK's Motor Industry Repair Research Centre.

The Tiguan was deemed the winner in the compact 4x4 category and the Phaeton won the luxury car sector.

Awards were given based on a number of criteria that relate to anti-theft security and safety.

Other Volkswagen models that performed well at the awards - and therefore might benefit from lower car insurance premiums - include the Touran, Eos convertible, Polo, Golf, Passat, Touareg and Golf Plus.

Franco Iannotta, the insurance ratings and vehicle security manager for the Volkswagen Group, commented: "It's a great result for Volkswagen that so many of its products have been recognised by Thatcham.

"We're particularly proud that the Tiguan has claimed first place in its inaugural awards. It's proof that our colleagues in the factory and we in the UK are working tirelessly to produce new cars for our customers that are both safe and secure."ADNFCR-1602-ID-18645226-ADNFCR
