Toyota Yaris is 'Green Car of the Year'

The eco-credentials of the Toyota Yaris have been applauded by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), which has named the vehicle Green Car of the Year 2008.

It scooped the top prize in the annual ETA Green Car Buyer's Guide, which reviews 1,300 vehicles based on various features including noise levels, fuel efficiency, power and emissions.

The Toyota RAV4 was named greenest vehicle in the Off Road category, while the Toyota Aygo was voted number one in the City category.

In addition, three other Toyota models were in the top ten; the Prius came third, the Aygo was sixth and the Auris was ninth.

The second-generation Toyota Yaris went on sale in 2006 offering improved quality, accommodation, performance and dynamic ability. It is available in three and five-door body styles and car insurance customers have a choice of four engines.

It has both manual and MultiMode transmissions and is placed in band B for Vehicle Excise Duty.

The announcement about the Prius' award comes in the run up to to the start of Green Transport Week (June 14th to June 22nd).
