Report claims collision rate is declining
17th June 2008
A decline in the average amount of miles driven means that fewer people are making claims on their car insurance for collision repairs, a new report has stated.
Data released by Trend Tracker showed that the UK car population increased by 18 per cent between 1998 and 2008 but that the number of collision repairs to cars rose only one per cent during this period.
The report, The UK Car Body Repair Market, claimed that a ten per cent decrease in the average distance travelled per vehicle was the reason fewer people were having to make these sorts of claims on their car insurance policy.
Despite this, the report still highlighted the importance of comprehensive car insurance, as it revealed that the average cost of repairs is £1,175.
What's more, the analysis suggested that the typical costs of repairs could rise by as much as 17 per cent in the coming years. By 2013, the company believes drivers will have to pay an average of £1,370 to repair their damaged cars.
