Chester police crackdown on dangerous driving

27th June 2008

People from Chester could find they have to pay higher car insurance premiums in the future, after a police crackdown found many motorists in the area are flouting laws of the road.

The local Chester Chronicle reported that police stopped 89 drivers on Monday (June 23rd) for offences ranging from using their mobile phone to not wearing a seat belt.

However, the drivers managed to avoid points on their licence and higher future car insurance costs if they agreed to attend a presentation by Chester fire crews about the fatal consequences of driving while distracted.

Sergeant Rachel Gallagher of Chester Police explained to the paper that it was important to try to change peoples' attitude towards dangerous driving.

"Our plain clothes spotters caught one man driving along with both hands off the steering wheel unwrapping a biscuit. You can't be in control doing that," she added.

"Sometimes the only way to get through to them is by showing them how they could be hurt or killed by what they are doing, as well as how selfish they are for putting other people at risk."ADNFCR-1602-ID-18659889-ADNFCR
