Anti-skid system slowly becoming more popular

2nd July 2008

The number of vehicles fitted with electronic stability programs (ESP) continued to rise in Europe in 2007.

According to figures released by Robert Bosch, around 50 per cent of new vehicles boast the anti-skid systems and so benefit from improved safety and potentially cheap car insurance deals.

However, the report warned that only 17 per cent of small and mini cars use ESP.

Herbert Hemming, an executive vice president at Bosch, commented: "Only roughly one-fifth of the vehicles actually on Europe's roads were equipped with ESP in 2007.

"To further increase the overall ESP share as quickly as possible, this technology has to be installed more in small cars as well."

Interestingly, the research also showed that drivers only tended to opt for ESP if it came with their new vehicle as standard. In other words, few motorists are prepared to pay extra for the system, even though it can improve safety and therefore keep future car insurance costs down.ADNFCR-1602-ID-18666683-ADNFCR
