Women avoid auctions
18th September 2008
Women shy away from confrontations with men in auctions, according to the DVLA Personalised Registrations.
Figures released by the motoring group disclose that out of 9,400 people who have registered to bid for private number plates this year, less than nine per cent were women, despite the popularity of private registrations among female drivers.
This trend will continue at the upcoming three-day auction at The Haycock Hotel in Cambridgeshire, where only two women are registered out of the 774 people that have signed up.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations' marketing manger, said: "We know private registrations are extremely popular with women, and yet our statistics show few actually turn up to our auctions and bid.
"All we can presume is that theyre avoiding doing battles with the guys."
The forthcoming auction in Cambridgeshire has a number of plates suited to the female driver with more money than sense, including KUP 1D, LUS 5T, BOS 3Y and LOV 11T.
