GM launches campaign for approved bodyshop repairs

14th October 2008

General Motors (GM) is to launch a nationwide campaign that aims to push the importance of using a GM approved bodyshop to avoid sub-standard repairs.

The campaign will illustrate that mechanics may not be able to tell the difference between good and bad quality steel used by different vehicle manufacturers.

Untrained technicians will therefore not be able to repair vehicles correctly if they do not have the right knowledge.

In response, GM is undertaking training for technicians to show them how to spot all the different materials used in car assembly and the techniques required to repair them.

GM’s accident repair manager Bernard Berman, explained that as autumn and winter months approach "icy roads, reduced visibility and greater traffic congestion" lead to accidents, which could lead to drivers' considering their car insurance.

He said: "When they do, our advice to drivers of our vehicles is to think carefully before letting someone else decide on the quality of your repairs."
