Drivers donÂ’t make basic checks, research reveals

6th November 2008

Drivers are putting themselves at risk by not taking the time to make some basic checks to their cars.

That is the warning issued by Kwik Fit, which has said that making checks on vehicles is particularly important during the winter months.

Kwik-Fit's research found that 40 per cent of motorists are unable to check and refill coolant and 20 per cent did not know how to fill their car with oil.

Some 21 per cent said they were unaware of how to check a car's tyre pressure and perhaps most surprisingly eight per cent of motorists did not even know how to open the bonnet of their car.

David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit, commented: “Car maintenance should never be overlooked, especially at this time of year.

"We urge motorists to take just one hour out to get to know their car or if they can’t spare the time or are unsure about where to start bring it down to us and we will look at it for them."

In addition to checking their cars, it is important for drivers to ensure they have taken the time to get cheap car insurance quotes for their vehicle.
