Vans can be made greener

Van insurance customers might be interested to know that more can be done for the vehicles in the UK to be more efficient in a bid to remain competitive in the increasingly difficult market, it has been claimed.

There are currently more than three million vans on UK roads, which represents nearly ten per cent of all vehicles registered and the recent Evolution of Van: Efficiency and Fleet Operation report highlights that more can be done to improve their fuel economy.

National fleet manager of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles UK Alastair Hemmings said the report looked in detail at how to understand and improve efficiency, which is becoming increasingly important in the current economic climate.

"This means better fuel use, better maintenance, better van choice and better utilisation, while a good, franchised van dealer is increasingly important, he added.

Earlier this month, the Confederation of British Industry suggested that the creation of a toll road on the A14 that would be used by van insurance customers could improve the economy.
